01 the short answer

What happens at a hens jewellery making class

Bubbly, a tray of sparkle, and two hours of everyone suddenly very serious about colour.

Hens jewellery making with My Ultimate Hens is a jewellery class with your host at the table and a drink in hand, where the girls make pieces to keep, from charm bracelets and statement earrings to glass, silver rings or permanent chains, built into a whole celebration of her. The class is where her day starts, not where it ends.

  1. Your spot is set. The table is set when you walk in, trays out and a glass of bubbly waiting at the charm and earring tables.
  2. The tray comes out. Glass beads, metal charms and findings, or a studio’s worth of coloured glass, plus every tool you need. Your host is right there among the girls.
  3. Every hand makes something. Every piece still ends up wearable, and the girl who swears she can’t make anything might just finish first.
  4. Two hours, gone in a blink. Clasps closed, earrings on, and every girl at the table has something to show for it.
  5. The wrist stack. Every bracelet held together for one photo. That’s the one the group chat keeps.
  6. Then it all goes out. Cocktails, a booth or the dance floor, with the charms and earrings already on.

Charm bracelets and charm bars

Pick the charms, thread the beads, clasp it on. Charm bars, where everyone chooses from a wall of charms, are the hens format of the moment. In Melbourne it’s glass beads and metal charms, with your host at the table and a glass of bubbly while you thread.

05 her people

Who a hens jewellery class suits

A tray, a glass and a seat at the table. Everybody goes home wearing something she made.

Mum, the aunties and every age between

A table, a tray and a task is the great leveller. Eighteen to eighty can sit at the same bead table. Mum might just make the bride’s favourite piece, and somebody’s aunty turns out to be a natural.

The creative, sentimental bride

The bride who has never once left the house without earrings, or still has her friendship bracelets from school. This one is hers. Quieter bride? Here are more low-key hens ideas.

The ones who don’t drink

The fun is in her hands, not her glass, and the steadiest hands at the table usually belong to the girl on lemonade.

A pregnant bride

A sit-down jewellery class is one of the easiest things for a pregnant bride to enjoy from start to finish: a comfy seat, a tray of sparkle and every eye on what she makes.

Girls who’ve never met

A shared tray does the introductions. By the second charm, everyone is choosing pieces for each other.

Small crews and big ones

Six of you or thirty, it works a treat. Small tables get chatty, long tables get loud, and both end in the same wrist stack photo.

Hi Chloe, I wanted to thankyou for the amazing night you put together for Emma's hens night. It was an absolute pleasure dealing with everybody from yourselves in the office. My daughter and all the guests has a fantastic time, so again, thankyou. Kind Regards Kerry-lee

Kerry-lee, mother of the bride, Brisbane

I booked a hens with this company for my cousin and didn't actually know any of the other girls attending, which can sometimes be a bit awkward when being the organiser, but it ended up being the best hens I've ever been to even if I do say so myself haha

We did one of the pamper party packages with the accomodation for some of us as well and it was really good. If you're reading this and wondering whether you should book the package… just do it. It was soooooo good!

Emily Osmond, Google. She organised her cousin’s pamper hens without knowing any of the other girls.

Honestly, I was nervous about the price point of going out as we couldn't decide if we should just have it at my house and nearly talked myself out of it twice. Josh who helped me find our package remembered I'd mentioned during my first chat that we weren't sure if a drinks package would be good value for us because not many of us are big drinkers, and he agreed with me and found a package at a lower price point so I really appreciated that and felt really looked after. He actually cared about us finding a package that suited us which I really appreciated. Really overjoyed with the outcome and so was Rachel the bride and her very fussy mum as well. Thank you to the whole team but especially to Josh.

Jennifer, Google. Her crew weren’t big drinkers, and the bride’s mum was “very fussy”.

Hi My Ultimate Hens Night Team! I just wanted to say a huge thankyou to everyone for everything you helped me with for the Hen night we held for Cat on Saturday. It was even better than we could have imagined. Warmest regards, Donna

Donna, Brisbane. Cat’s crew made flower crowns.

The most amazing experience dealing with My Ultimate Hens. They organised an incredible weekend filled with numerous activities. From flower crown making, to cocktail making to cruising around in a fire engine, just to name a few, with all the girls. My ultimate you went above and beyond and I can't stop talking about your company. Thank you!!!

Cassie Barker, Google. Flower crowns, cocktails and a fire engine.

Our night flowed really well, no stuffing around and most importantly I got to actually enjoy my friends hens instead of playing event manager all night because everything had already been thought through. The timing, what was included, where we'd go next, what suited the 9 girls we had and honestly, I didn't properly realise how much difference that would make until the actual night itself. It felt like a proper event rather than us just meeting at a few places Han loved every part of it and even said how did you do and find all this?? So that was the review from her I needed and I would use them again in a heartbeat!

Jess Mitchelson-Hall, Google. Organised her friend’s hens for nine.

There’s no one way to build it. Here are three of the most-loved ways our crews have done it, and her city’s packages have plenty more combinations.

  1. Afternoon. Velvet chesterfields and hanging plants at a glam cocktail lounge, a glass of bubbly each and your seating already waiting.
  2. The charms come out. Two hours with your artist host, a cocktail each and a grazing platter for the table. Two finished pieces per girl.
  3. The wrist stack. Every bracelet together for the photo before you leave.
  4. Night. Into the city: VIP entry with the cover charge waived, a velvet booth held for two hours, and a surprise bottle of bubbly for her. The dance floor is right there.

Why it runs this way: the beads need daylight and steady hands. The booth needs neither.

  1. He pours, you thread. Glasses never empty while every hand at the table is full of beads.
  2. Clasp duty. The fiddly clasps go to the man with the steadiest hands in the room.
  3. The runway. Every necklace gets tried on him first. Most admired display stand in Australia.
  4. The charm auction. He holds up each finished piece and the bride bids in compliments.
  5. Put a ring on it. Ring toss onto the bubbly bottle with the rings you just made. He keeps score, she keeps the bottle.
  6. The photo boy. Wrist stacks, the bride’s first piece, the group shot. Your camera roll, handled.

Your topless waiter is one of our own, hired and trained as a My Ultimate Hens waiter: he pours the drinks, runs the games, takes the photos and keeps the cheek exactly where the bride likes it. Add him to her day in her city, or see the whole topless waiter hens party line-up.

Booking a jewellery class for a hens, and the day around it

A class gets you a table and a tray. A hens is everything around it.

Plenty of groups book a jewellery class themselves and have a lovely time. A My Ultimate Hens jewellery making day puts the whole celebration in one place: the class, the bubbly, the food, the next stop and the little surprises for the bride, lined up in an order that works, because we’ve been building hens since 2011 and we know what makes a day land.

  • One place for everything.
  • Surprises for her, already in it.
  • You’re in the wrist stack photo, not behind the phone.

On a class, or a hens

I was a MOH for the first time and feeling the pressure because she is not into the tacky hens thing at all. What I liked most was that Britt actually understood the difference between 'things to do on a hens' and planning a good hens that felt like an actual celebration not a bunch of bookings together because obviously I could have booked a cocktail class and dinner or whatever myself obviously. I only realised after that I just wouldn't have known which combination would suit our group, what order to do it all in or half the little details and personalised touches for the bride that made the whole night what it was. So there's definitely more thought behind these packages than I realised before booking and she absolutely loved it and apparently I'm now the designated event organiser of the group. Would 100% use them again and a big thankyou to Britt and Maddi as well for everything that went into making it so good!

Hens jewellery making questions

The ones the group chat asks before anyone says yes.

Do we need to be crafty?

No. It’s all about having fun together, not about being any good, and every table has someone running it: your artist host at the charm table, a hostess with all the tricks for earrings, an instructor in the glass or silver studio. Some pieces come out shop-worthy, some come out hilarious, and they all go in the wrist stack photo.

What do we make, and how many pieces each?

Charm bracelets and necklaces, statement earrings or a whole fused glass collection: two charm pieces each, two pairs of earrings each, or a whole glass collection at the ready-made hens. Silver rings, permanent chains, friendship bracelets and charm bars are lined up on request.

How long does a hens jewellery class take?

A hens jewellery class runs about two hours, a little longer in the glass studio, and how long the celebration goes is up to you. Our packages cater for every kind of hens, from an afternoon at the table to a big night out.

Do we take it home on the day?

Yes. Charm pieces, earrings, friendship bracelets and permanent chains go straight on and out for the night. Glass is fired in a kiln and some silver rings are finished after the class, so those come home a little later, and we’ll tell you when.

Is hens jewellery making a day or night activity?

Hens jewellery making is an afternoon activity that turns into a night: make it while hands are steady, then cocktails, a VIP booth or the dance floor once the clasps are on.

Can mum and the older guests join in?

Yes, absolutely. A hens jewellery class is one of the easiest for a mixed crew, because the fun is in everyone’s hands rather than their glass, and mum might just end up with the best piece at the table.

Does it work for non-drinkers or a pregnant bride?

Yes. Jewellery making is all about the hands, not the glass, and we’ve got packages for every level of drinking. For a pregnant bride we can always arrange pregnancy-friendly food, and for non-drinkers we can always organise a non-alcoholic alternative.

Is the class private?

Your crew sits together at a table set up for her, with your host right there and the trays out when you walk in: reserved seating at the charm table, a room or reserved area for the earrings, or the glass studio.

How many people do we need?

Six of you or thirty, a hens jewellery class works a treat. Tell us how many are coming when you tell us about her, and we’ll set the table for her crew.

Can the bridal party make matching pieces, and does the bride get her own?

Matching bridesmaid pieces are the whole idea of the glass studio: pick the colours and shapes together and the bridal party ends up with a matching set. The bride gets the biggest audience for everything she makes, and on the glass night a surprise kit of her own.

Can we make silver rings at a hens?

Yes. Silver ring making is one we line up on request: tell us her city and we’ll come back with a silversmithing class for the crew. Glass rings are already part of the Melbourne glass studio.

Can we do permanent jewellery at a hens?

Yes, on request: a fine chain welded closed on each wrist, a few minutes per person, so the whole bridal party walks out matching. Tell us her city in the form.

Which cities can we do it in?

All six. Hens jewellery making runs ready-made in Melbourne, Perth and Adelaide, and we line it up on request in Sydney, Brisbane and the Gold Coast.

How much does hens jewellery making cost?

Our jewellery making hens packages usually sit around $150 to $400 per person. Every package is the whole celebration, not just the jewellery. Pick her city to see them.

Can we add something cheeky afterwards?

Yes, absolutely. From a limo with bubbly to our topless waiter or a cheeky stage show, there’s plenty to add, and her city’s packages show what goes with each.

What’s trending in hens jewellery?

Charm bars and charm bracelets are the trending hens format, permanent jewellery is the newest trend, silver ring making is the biggest jewellery class overall, and statement earrings are the classic hens choice. Charms, earrings and glass come ready-made with us; the rest are on request.
