What happens on a hens party cruise

The boat pulls away. The celebration starts moving.

A hens party cruise with My Ultimate Hens is the whole crew on the water with a glass in hand and the city sliding past, with the rest of the bride’s day planned around it; our packages are in Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane, the Gold Coast, Perth and Adelaide.

A boat hens party is the one hens where nobody wanders off. For a few hours everyone she loves is in the same place, nobody’s checking a map or splitting Ubers, and the only thing moving is the view. Her uni friends find her work friends at the rail, her mum finds the best seat on deck, and somewhere around the second glass the whole boat is one big group.

The shoreline starts moving past. Someone points at the view, someone lifts a phone, and the bride turns round to find her friends already smiling at her.

Every good hens cruise, about ten minutes in
  1. Two friends in sunglasses laughing by the river at sunset, the city towers behind them

    At the wharf

Everyone arrives in white and stripes

The first photo happens before anyone’s even on board, and somebody has definitely brought the captain hat.

  2. A hen laughing as she pops a bottle of bubbles on the deck, the harbour behind her

    Stepping on board

    The first glass is poured

Bags down, sunnies on, a cold glass in her hand before the ropes come off.

  3. A woman in white raising her drink on the bow of a boat, the harbour bridge behind her

    Pulling away

The city turns into a postcard

Bridges overhead, the skyline sliding past, and every phone on the boat suddenly out at once.

  4. A hens crew in sailor hats toasting with bubbles on the deck of a yacht, moored boats behind

    Settling in

The playlist, something to nibble, a game or two

The music goes up, the bubbles keep coming, and the bride quiz turns out to be harder than anyone thought.

  5. Hands raising glasses of rose bubbles over sunlit water

As the boat turns for home

    The toast

The conversations pause, the glasses go up, and the reason everyone’s here becomes wonderfully obvious.

  6. A big hens crew of every age throwing captain hats in the air on a river cruise at sunset

    Then

The photo with all of you, and onwards

Everyone in the one frame, you included. Then off the boat and straight into the rest of her day.

And you? You booked one thing, then stood at the rail with a drink like everyone else.

Thinking of bringing her favourite bubbles? Here are our BYO drinks tips.

Ways to do a boat hens party

Nine ways to put her on the water, from golden hour to a little cheeky. Which one sounds like her? Tap it and we’ll keep it in mind when you tell us about her.

When is she on the water?

Her crew, her playlist

A yacht or catamaran for the crew

Your crew spread out across the deck, your playlist on, the city sliding past and the bride claiming the best spot on the bow. On our yachts and catamarans it’s just your crew on board, which is exactly how a hens yacht party should feel. Looking at hens party boat hire? This is the version with the whole hens built around your boat.

Big city views

A harbour or river cruise

The skyline slides past, the bridges go overhead and the city lights come on for the trip back. A hens harbour cruise or a hens river cruise turns the whole city into her backdrop, and nobody has to walk anywhere to see it.

A hens crew in I do crew sailor hats on a catamaran net at sunset, the harbour bridge and a pink sky behind them
Golden hour

A sunset cruise

Golden hour on the water, when the light does all the work and the sky goes pink behind her. It’s the hens boat cruise for the best photos of the whole hens, and the toast lands just as the city lights flicker on.

Grazing and bubbles on deck, a slow lunch with the sun on the water, then off the boat and on to the next stop. The day starts on the water and keeps getting better from there.

Dance floor

A dinner cruise with a show and a dance floor

Dinner, a DJ, a show on board, then everyone up and dancing while the boat glides past the lights. It’s a hens night cruise where the dance floor floats.

04 the fare

What a hens party cruise costs

The package is the magic.

The bride in her tiara with her crew on deck, drinks in hand, the river and the city behind them
The table, the view, the whole crew. That’s the fare.

Our hens cruise packages usually sit around $150 to $400 per person. Most of them carry the day on from the wharf, with the rest of her hens planned around the boat.

What moves it: her city, the boat, a day or a sunset cruise, what’s on board (food, a show, a topless waiter or a queen), what comes after, and whether you make a weekend of it.

A hens cruise for her: the whole crew on the water, bubbles on deck and the rest of the day planned around it. Our hens cruise packages usually sit around $150 to $400 per person.

With us, the boat is waiting at the wharf when she arrives, and on most of our hens cruises a rooftop, a limo or a dance floor is lined up for when you step off.

Want to see the packages? Pick her city.

05 dress the deck

What to wear on a hens boat party

The bride in white, the girls in a theme, and shoes that love a deck.

The bride in a sailor hat, sequins and a Bride to Be sash saluting on deck, the bay behind her

The bride

White, the one different colour on deck. A captain hat that says Bride, with a short veil if she’s game, and she’ll be the easiest girl to find in every photo.

A hens crew in pinks, oranges and heart sunglasses on deck, a city bridge behind them

The girls

A theme together: navy and white stripes, all white with the bride in a colour, or sunset shades for an evening cruise. Your hens boat party outfit, sorted in one group chat message.

The practical bit, said nicely

  • Flat sandals or clean sneakers. Decks and heels have never been friends.
  • A layer for later. It cools down on the water once the sun goes.
  • Hair up, or a hat that stays on. The breeze always wins.
  • Sunnies. For the glare, and for the photos.

Copy a dress code into the group chat

Nautical: navy and white stripes, a sailor hat if you have one. The bride wears white and the captain hat.

All white: everyone in white, the bride in one bright colour so she pops on deck.

Sunset: coral, peach, pink and gold, like the sky at golden hour. The bride in white.

Something blue: everyone in a different shade of blue, the bride in white with one blue detail.

More looks for the day and the night: daytime hens party outfits and what to wear to a hens night.

06 on deck

Themes, games and a playlist for the boat

A look for the photos, a game for the deck and a soundtrack for the ride home.

Hens boat party themes

Nautical is the classic for a reason: stripes, anchors, captain hats and a sailor hen party crew lined up at the rail. Sailor hats for the girls, a captain hat for the bride and a “Last sail before the veil” banner if she loves a pun. All white with the bride in a colour, something blue, or a sunset palette for an evening cruise all look incredible against the water.

  • Nautical: stripes, anchors, a captain hat for the bride and sailor hats for the girls.
  • All white: the crew in white, the bride in one bright colour.
  • Something blue: every shade of blue, the bride in white.
  • Sunset: coral, peach and gold, for the golden hour photos.
  • Last sail before the veil: the banner, matching tees and the line on her invite.
  • The finishing touches: a banner on the rail, matching hats or a tote each.

From the very first moment I reached out to them, right up until after my event the whole team were so hands on, so excited to help and always willing to go the extra mile with recommendations on where to find fun props/outfits for our hens party theme and even the playlist they sent us was such a cool unexpected extra that we hadn't even considered so it was perfect to have that all ready to go to plug in during our boat cruise! Couldn't recommend them enough 🫶🏼🫶🏼🫶🏼”

What a My Ultimate Hens cruise adds

A My Ultimate Hens cruise puts the whole celebration in one place: the boat, what comes before it and where everyone goes when it docks, lined up in an order that works, because we’ve been building hens since 2011 and we know what makes a day land.

  • A big hens crew sitting together on wide steps, dressed up and smiling
The day around the boat. Off the gangway and straight into the next part of her hens.
  • The bride in silver sequins and her veil with her bridesmaids in heart sunglasses, the river behind them
Little touches just for her. On most of our hens cruises something’s waiting just for the bride, like her own cocktail or a bottle on ice.
  • Three friends in captain hats smiling together on deck in the late afternoon light, the river behind them
You get to be on the boat. At the rail, glass in hand, in the photos.

From an organiser who’s already planning the next one:

Linda's hens crew doing high kicks together on their night out

“Had the most amazing time with the girls on the cruise package over the weekend, thanks so much My Ultimate! The hen had an absolute ball which is what it is all about and everyone was so helpful putting this together that I would highly recommend you to anyone. Now just waiting for my next friend to get married so I can organise the next one!

Britt did her own hens on the water with us. Here’s how her day ran, and every question an organiser asks, answered by what actually happened.

Brittany Hockley laughing on the deck of a catamaran with a glass of bubbles, the Harbour Bridge and the city behind her

Life Uncut co-host Brittany Hockley celebrated her own hens with My Ultimate Hens: four hours on a catamaran on Sydney Harbour with her girls, then sunset cocktails by the water, a rooftop dinner and a stretch limo through the city lights.

“the most fun night of my life”

Brittany Hockley, on Instagram
  1. Britt at the rail of the catamaran, the Opera House and the Harbour Bridge behind her

    Will she get the photo?

The bow, the bridge, a glass up

The Opera House on one side, the bridge on the other, and the bride in the middle of it. That’s the one for the frame.

  2. Britt's hens crew on the deck of the catamaran with their arms up, the harbour behind them

    Will the whole crew mix?

    Four hours, one deck

The whole crew, every age, all facing the same view, and every one of them within arm’s reach of the bride.

  3. Britt showing off her engagement ring on deck as the sun sets over the harbour

What happens when the boat docks?

    A table already waiting

Off the boat and onto a terrace by the water: a bottle of bubbly already on the table, and a cocktail made just for the bride.

  4. Britt in her Bride to Be sash and a white blazer, glass up, under pink lights at night

Will the night keep its sparkle?

Up to the rooftop, then the limo

Straight in as the city lights come on, seats waiting, a glass of bubbly in every hand. Then a stretch limo pulls up and the city goes by with the music up.

  5. Britt in a white blazer and Bride to Be sash on the harbour steps at night, glass in hand

And who’s doing all the organising?

    Not her girls

Every stop was lined up before the day, so her girls got to spend it with her: at the rail, in the photos and in the limo.

Hens party cruise questions

The ones the group chat will ask you, answered before they do. Booking in general lives on our FAQ page.

What is a hens party cruise?

A hens party cruise is the whole crew on a boat on the water, bubbles in hand and the city sliding past, inside a My Ultimate Hens package with the rest of the bride’s day planned around it.

How much does a hens party cruise cost?

Our hens cruise packages usually sit around $150 to $400 per person. Her city, the boat and what comes after set where yours lands.

How long is a hens cruise?

Our hens cruises usually run for around three hours on the water, then the day carries on to whatever’s next.

Can we have the boat to ourselves?

Yes. On our yachts and catamarans it’s just your crew on board, your playlist and your bride.

Should we do a day cruise or a sunset cruise?

Either is a great hens: a day cruise is sunshine, sunnies and the city in full colour, and a sunset cruise is golden hour photos and the city lighting up on the way back.

Can we have a topless waiter on the boat?

Yes. Our own topless waiters pour the bubbles and get the games going on deck; see our topless waiter hens parties.

Can we have a drag queen on board?

Yes. A queen hosting the deck, the games and the bride’s big moment; see our drag queen hens parties.

What should we wear on a hens cruise?

The bride in white, maybe a captain hat with a veil, and the girls in a theme together, with flat sandals or sneakers for the deck and a layer for after sunset.

What happens if it rains?

Our hens cruises go ahead in most weather, and if it’s ever unsafe on the water we work out the best plan with you; see what happens if it rains on the hens.

Can Mum, the aunties and her nan come?

Yes. A cruise is one of the easiest hens for Mum, the aunties and her nan: a seat on deck, a glass in hand and the best view in the city.

What happens after the cruise?

Whatever she loves: a rooftop bar, dinner, a limo through the city lights or a night out, all planned around the cruise.

Is a hens cruise the same as a cruise ship holiday?

No. Our hens cruises are usually around three hours on the water with your crew, then the rest of her day, not a holiday on a cruise ship.
