Knock knock. The girls freeze. Someone turns the music down and someone else turns it straight back up. The bride is nudged towards the door by a handful of very helpful friends. She opens it, and there he is: your shirtless mixologist host in his sexy fireman gear, ready to set the afternoon alight. Fire Starter Weekend is for the bride who has always had a thing for a man in uniform, and for a tight little crew who want the eye candy right at home base. Let's go, girls!
Back to the start for a second. The weekend begins the way every good hens weekend should: you check in and there's a bed for every guest, so nobody has to leave the party to get home. Then your apartment becomes the bar. Your private two hour cocktail making workshop comes to you with all the equipment included and all the non alcoholic ingredients for your drinks, right down to the ice. Your part is easy. You bring the spirits, and we'll tell you exactly which ones. He takes care of absolutely everything else.
Choose your two cocktail flavours from a line-up that includes a Marshmallow Espresso Martini, a Watermelon Margarita, a Cotton Candy Cosmo and a Passionfruit Martini, and then it's shaking time. He walks you step by step through two cocktails each, with hens games and a few cheeky cocktail challenges in between. The bride gets the first shake, obviously, and if she plays her cards right, a little extra help with her technique. Your cocktails come out picture perfect and your fireman poses beautifully beside them. The camera roll? Officially on fire.
Once he has packed up and gone, there's time for a quick touch-up before you hit the town. It's an easy teeter to dinner in the Melbourne CBD, where our cocktail bar glows with Xs and Os across the walls and the beautiful decor practically begs for a group photo. Your reserved seating for the group is ready, and before the chairs are even warm there's a cocktail in every hand. Then the delicious share plates start coming for the table, and your hen gets a bonus cocktail, because the bride always gets one more than everyone else. Cheers to that!
Then it's a short stroll to the finale, a glam cocktail lounge tucked down a Melbourne laneway. Your VIP booth is waiting, all plush velvet under custom neon signs, and it's yours for two hours. Entry is sorted with no cover charge, and the bubbly isn't far behind: a surprise bottle for your hen, and the look on her face is half the fun. Raise a toast to the bride, and when your song comes on, the dance floor is right there on your doorstep.
Small crew, big fun. The friend who has been practising her shaking arm will be thrilled, and so will the one who just came for the fireman. And when your bride is back in that booth, glass up and cheeks still pink from the afternoon, you'll be squeezed in right beside her, and everyone at that table knows who lit the match.
