Shaken, Not Stirred. Well, Maybe A Little Stirred.
A little confession before we start: the cocktails are the excuse. Shaken Not Stirred Weekend is for the bride who likes her martini chilled and her company dazzling, and for the eight of you, bride and all, it turns your city apartment into a very glamorous bar for the afternoon. The host? Shirtless. The outfit? Fireman. The drinks? Shaken by you. The bride? Blushing already.
Bags down and beds found, one for every guest, and the afternoon is officially yours. Then in strolls your shirtless mixologist host in sexy fireman attire, ready to run your private two hour cocktail making workshop right there in your apartment. He brings every non alcoholic ingredient and all the equipment, right down to the ice and the shakers. Your job is simply to grab the spirits, and we'll tell you exactly which bottles to pick up.
Pick your two favourites from the choice of cocktail flavours, maybe a Cotton Candy Cosmo and a Marshmallow Espresso Martini, or go bold with a Watermelon Margarita and a Passionfruit Martini. Then he takes you through it, shake by shake, until everyone has made two cocktails each. Hens games fill the gaps between rounds, with a little friendly competition over whose pour looks prettiest. At some point the bride is handed the shaker while the whole room chants her name. Snap the lot: the glasses lined up, the bride mid-shake, the fireman grinning beside her and the whole crew squeezed into frame.
Then the night steps out. Our neon-lit cocktail bar is an easy teeter away in the Melbourne CBD, all blush tones and gold accents under lighting that flatters every photo, with beautiful decor wherever you look. Your reserved seating for the group is waiting, and a round of cocktails on arrival means somebody else is doing the shaking for once. Delicious share plates follow for the table, and a bonus cocktail finds its way to the bride. Bride's privileges!
And now, the finale, with a touch of the secret agent about it. Tucked down a Melbourne laneway is a glam cocktail lounge, and inside it your VIP booth waits beneath glittering pendants, plush velvet and all, yours for two hours. Entry is sorted and the cover charge is waived. Your mission, once you're settled in? A surprise bottle of bubbly for your hen, popped and poured before she can ask questions. From there the dance floor is right on the doorstep, and the night is yours to dance away.
Whether she already owns a cocktail shaker or has never made anything fancier than a vodka lemonade, every girl in this crew finishes the afternoon with two cocktails she made herself and a story to go with each.
