The Group Chat Deserves A Date Fries Before Guys.
Some things deserve to jump straight to the top of the priority list. A bottomless brunch with the bride and her girls, an afternoon bottle of your own at the Ultimate Hens Bachelorette Pad Apartment, pizzas by the water and a VIP booth with your name on it? This is one of them. Fries Before Guys gives her an entire Melbourne weekend to eat, drink, catch up and dance. Clear the calendar. The girls have plans.
First priority: brunch. Settle in at our high end cocktail bar by the river for two hours of bottomless cocktails, wine, beer and bubbles, with a brunch main each. It's a polished spot, so a tiara or sash is perfect. Raise the first glass and let everyone get through the important updates. One story becomes three, somebody remembers something she absolutely meant to tell everyone and the next round arrives. Convenient.
Then the Bach Pad claims the afternoon. Get the wine you brought open, claim a spot on the couch and let the catch-up keep rolling, with the pool and spa in the building for anyone who fancies a dip. Nobody is dressed for the night yet and the conversation keeps finding new directions. For now, her favourite people and a bottle of wine are plenty.
Eventually, the outfits start appearing and the Bach Pad shifts into getting ready mode. Makeup bags spread out, music goes on and the usual important decisions begin. Which top? These shoes? Hair up or down? The bride asks for an opinion and then does exactly what she was going to do anyway. A time-honoured tradition.
Then it's our riverside restaurant, where the reserved table has bubbly for every girl and a cocktail made for the bride. Let the pizzas and salads arrive and there they are: the fries that earned naming rights to the entire weekend. Crispy, golden and destined for the middle of the table, where etiquette says they belong to everyone. Fries before guys. We don't make the rules.
From there, it's a Melbourne laneway and our glam cocktail lounge, where your group skips the cover charge and gets a VIP booth for two hours and a bottle of bubbly for the group. The final priority of the night: dancing. The dancefloor steals people away one song at a time, and the booth becomes home base between favourite tracks and the bride announcing "THIS IS OUR SONG" about a song that has belonged to the group for roughly three minutes.
Later, it's home to the Bach Pad with tired feet and several unfinished conversations. Shoes off, water all round and one final couch debrief before somebody finally admits defeat.
After years of bringing hens together, we've learnt the best weekends aren't always about the big moments. It's the brunch that runs long, wine on the couch and fries passed around the table.
