Somewhere on her laptop there is a wedding spreadsheet with more tabs than anyone thought possible, and a seating plan that has been redrawn more times than she will ever admit. This Saturday, she shakes the lot off. Literally! Shake It Off hands the seven of you, bride included, a glam room of your own and a twerking class that turns every bit of wedding stress into a wiggle, then sends the new moves out to meet a dance floor. Nobody needs rhythm, or even to know what a twerk is yet. They just need to turn up.
It starts behind a door in the Melbourne CBD, in our glam VIP room, with pink hues everywhere and neon signs glowing through the hanging greenery. The stunning decor was styled with hens in mind, and the room is yours for two whole hours. A cocktail each arrives as you do, and the bride proposes the first toast herself: to the end of the spreadsheet!
Your private dance instructor has the music cued up, and there's a costume waiting for the bride. The rest of you grab the fun accessories and fall in behind her. For one hour the room turns into a very giggly rehearsal. Knees bend and hips pop. Muscles appear that nobody knew existed. The friend who swore she would just watch is somehow in the front row by the third song, and the bride, in full costume, is shaking off every RSVP that never came back.
Still buzzing, the party spills out to a table reserved for you in the main dining room, and the footage gets its world premiere between bites. A spread of delicious share plates lands in the middle, and a bonus cocktail sails straight to the bride. Consider it her reward for surviving the spreadsheet.
Then the Saturday changes gear. Barely a stroll away, our glam cocktail lounge waits down a Melbourne laneway, all low lighting and plush velvet, with custom neon signs glowing and glittering pendants catching the light. With the cover charge waived and VIP entry sorted, a reserved VIP booth is yours for two hours. And then the surprise bottle of bubbly for your hen, delivered right there to the booth. The dance floor sits on your doorstep, so when her song comes on, out comes the routine and the whole lounge finds out what your crew has been practising all afternoon. She'll dance the night away with every worry shaken loose.
At some point she'll catch your eye mid-shimmy and mouth thank you across the booth. Take it. You earned it the moment you booked this.
