Paint the Town, Starting With the Living Room Brush With Destiny Weekend.
The last paintbrush any of you held was for a home DIY project, and the only art on your fridges was done by someone under ten. Everyone swears they used to be the creative one. So when someone floated a hens weekend where the art comes to you and the cocktails come after, suddenly the whole group remembered they'd always wanted to paint. Brush With Destiny Weekend is the full picture: the Ultimate Hens Bachelorette Pad Apartment, grazing delivered to the door, a painting workshop that comes to you, then a launch party of cocktails and share plates. Time with the bride belongs with the essentials, and it looks good on canvas too.
The Bach Pad is the blank canvas, and it doesn't stay blank for long. Soon the grazing boxes arrive, sweet and savoury spread across the table like a still life nobody has any intention of leaving alone.
Your My Ultimate Hens artist host arrives with everything you'll need, right down to an apron each, which going by some of the brushwork is a very smart call. For two hours the living room is your studio. It starts careful, a little colour here and a line there. A few sips later the brushstrokes get braver and the commentary gets louder. Everyone follows exactly the same steps and not one canvas looks like another, which says a lot about this lot. Then the whole row gets propped against the couch for the gallery shot.
With the canvases drying against the wall, the brushes don't get put away, they just get smaller. Acrylics make way for eyeshadow palettes, and the blending at the mirror is taken every bit as seriously as the painting was. There's a smudge of paint on at least one elbow and nobody's saying a word.
Then it's out into the city for the opening night. At our city cocktail bar, the table's reserved and a cocktail each kicks off the launch party, plus a bonus cocktail for the bride, our artist of honour. The share plates get passed round and quietly fought over, and the talk moves well past the life updates into the stories you only tell in person.
When you get home the paintings are waiting right where you left them, and the couch turns into an art panel. Every canvas gets a critique that's louder than the last. The one everybody secretly thinks is best never gets named out loud. By the daylight viewing in pyjamas, the critics have softened considerably.
