Somewhere in her wardrobe there is a sequinned something she has been saving for the right occasion. This is the occasion. Disco Diva is a Saturday made for a crew of six, bride included: a disco dance class in a glam room of your own, then a velvet VIP booth where the diva finally gets her dance floor.
Every diva needs a wardrobe department and a backing crew who know their place, which is slightly behind her and cheering. Today she gets both, starting with a costume of her very own that arrives with your dance host. The flares and the big hair are up to the rest of you, and yes, she still gets to be the most fabulous person in the room.
The celebration starts in our glam VIP room in the CBD, yours for two hours, where the pink hues and neon signs already look halfway to a disco. Honestly, the stunning decor was waiting for you. A round of cocktails is handed over as you arrive, and the first toast to the diva happens before the first song. Somebody will attempt a Bee Gees falsetto before the glasses are empty. Let her.
Then your private dance instructor cues up the music and the class begins. One hour of disco moves, funky and fun, made for owning a dance floor. There are fun accessories for the group to play with, and the diva is front and centre in her costume. Point to the ceiling. Hips to the side. Now the bride leads it and the girls follow, and there is a lot of laughing whenever somebody goes the wrong way.
With the class done and the hair fluffed back into place, the celebration moves out to your reserved table in the main dining room. Delicious share plates from the chef arrive, and the diva gets a bonus cocktail, obviously, while the table replays every spin in slow motion.
Now for the dance floor she has been rehearsing for. Our glam cocktail lounge is an easy teeter away, even in platforms, hidden down a Melbourne laneway. VIP entry gets you in with the cover charge waived, and your reserved VIP booth is waiting for two whole hours, all plush velvet and low lighting, with glittering pendants twinkling overhead as if the disco gods planned it. Pop! A surprise bottle of bubbly for your hen lands at the booth, right on cue. With the dance floor on your doorstep, the diva steps out with the girls right behind her, and together you dance the night away.
Look at her under those lights, sequins catching and a grin that won't quit, and then look at the girl who planned it all. That's you, by the way. Take a bow.
